How we choose

We can't put a stroller in a lab — so we do the thing that <em>is</em> possible, and we say so out loud. Transparency is the whole method.

We cannot put a stroller in a lab, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can do is publish exactly how a guide was built, so you can judge whether the reasoning holds up. This page is that disclosure.

What our guides are built from

Every guide on this site is assembled from four kinds of input, and we try to make clear which one is doing the work in any given recommendation:

  • Manufacturer documentation. Datasheets, manuals, and published safety certifications. This is the primary source for anything numeric: frequency bands, weight limits, installed dimensions, battery claims, materials, and compliance standards.
  • Aggregated customer reviews. We read reviews in volume and cluster them by complaint theme, because the useful signal in a review section is rarely the star rating — it is the pattern of what breaks, and how often.
  • Published safety and security research. Recalls, regulator notices, and independent security research where it exists, particularly for anything that connects to a network.
  • Our own domain knowledge. Wireless protocols, radio interference, power behaviour, and the practical difference between specifications that look similar on paper but behave differently in a home.

What we are not

Being explicit about this matters more than the list above:

  • We are not a testing lab. We do not claim hands-on testing we have not done. If a guide says a fabric feels soft, treat that as a red flag, because we would not be able to know that.
  • We are not a medical or safety authority. Where a product touches on infant sleep, feeding, or travel safety, we point you to the relevant standards and to your paediatrician or a certified technician — we do not substitute for them.
  • We are not a price tracker. Prices move constantly, so we do not print them. Every button links to the retailer’s live price instead.
  • We are not exhaustive. We deliberately cover a small number of narrow problems very well rather than every product in a category badly. If you need a broad overview, a large retailer’s own category page will serve you better than we can.

How to read a recommendation here

Each pick is presented with the same four things, and you should expect all four:

  1. Who it is for — the specific situation it solves.
  2. The numbers that decide it — the measurements or specifications you can check yourself.
  3. Who should skip it — the case where this pick is the wrong answer, stated plainly.
  4. What it costs over time — including subscription obligations, which are easy to miss and can exceed the hardware cost.

A pick with no stated exclusion is, in our view, an incomplete recommendation. If we cannot say who should avoid something, we have not understood it well enough to recommend it.

Our limitations, stated up front

  • Specifications change. Manufacturers revise products silently. We re-check on a rolling 90-day cycle, but a change can land between updates. Always confirm the current specification on the retailer’s page before buying.
  • Regional variation exists. The same model name can ship with different components in different markets. Our US-market guides describe the US configuration.
  • Fit is personal. A measurement range can tell you whether something will close around you; it cannot tell you whether you will enjoy wearing it. Buy from somewhere with a real return policy.
  • We are a small publisher. We cannot cover everything, and we would rather say “we have not looked at that yet” than pad a page with filler.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we want to know. Send us the specific claim and, if you have it, a source. Confirmed errors are fixed, and the change is recorded in the update log at the foot of the affected guide rather than quietly edited away.

Our four steps

  1. Start with the specs that decide the outcome. Frequency band, weight limits, installed width, battery, subscription terms — the numbers that actually change whether it works in your home.
  2. Cross-check against real-world reviews. We cluster thousands of customer reviews by complaint theme (signal dropout, battery decay, fit) instead of quoting the star average.
  3. Name who shouldn't buy it. Every ranking names who should skip each pick. If we can't say that, we haven't understood the product.
  4. Re-check every 90 days. Discontinued models are pulled, specs re-verified, and the update log shows exactly what changed.

What we do — and what we refuse to do

✅ We do

  • verify specifications against manufacturer datasheets and safety documentation.
  • read and cluster aggregated customer reviews.
  • name a pick we would personally avoid, and why.

❌ We don't

  • claim hands-on testing we haven't done.
  • accept payment for a ranking or a placement.
  • print a price we can't show live.

How we make money

This site is funded by affiliate commissions. When you follow a link to a retailer and buy something, that retailer pays us a small percentage. The price you pay is identical either way. We do not accept payment for a ranking or a placement, and no brand can pay to be included in a guide.

Affiliate disclosure: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. This site contains affiliate links — if you buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend products we have researched independently.

Why you will not see prices

Retail prices change constantly, and Amazon requires that any price shown to a reader is served live. Rather than print a number that may be wrong by the time you read it, every button on this site links straight to the retailer's live price.

Corrections and updates

Guides are re-checked on a rolling 90-day cycle. Discontinued models are removed rather than left in place, and every material change is recorded in the update log at the foot of the article. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we will fix it and note it.
